State Compliance & Sitter Verification
Every KinderCare sitter is screened against federal guidelines and the specific childcare regulations of their state — so your family is always protected.
How KinderCare Compliance Works
Before a sitter can accept bookings, they pass through four stages of compliance review specific to their state.
Document Submission
Sitters upload required credentials, licenses, and training certificates through our secure document portal during onboarding.
→State Regulation Check
Our compliance engine maps the sitter's location to that state's specific childcare laws, licensing thresholds, and ratio requirements.
→Background Screening
A multi-source background check is run — including sex offender registries, national criminal databases, and child abuse clearances.
→Compliance Badge Issued
Sitters who pass all checks receive a state-specific KinderCare Compliance Badge, visible to families on their profile.
Core Compliance Requirements
Regardless of state, all KinderCare sitters must meet these baseline federal and platform-level standards.
Federal Criminal Background Check
NCIC database search covering felonies, misdemeanors, and sex offender registry in all 50 states.
Child Abuse & Neglect Clearance
Checked against the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) and applicable state child protective services registries.
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
Required for sitters who offer transportation as part of their services. Pulled directly from state DMV records.
CPR / First Aid Certification
Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification from a recognized provider (Red Cross, AHA, or equivalent). Must be current and unexpired.
Government-Issued ID Verification
Identity confirmed via driver's license, passport, or state ID using document verification technology.
Reference Verification
Minimum two professional or character references contacted and verified by the KinderCare compliance team.
State Requirement Tiers
States fall into three tiers based on the depth of their childcare licensing requirements.
Standard Licensing States
Require basic background checks and CPR certification. Home daycare providers need a county-level family childcare license.
Elevated Regulation States
Require state-issued childcare certificates, mandatory reporting training, and periodic health & safety inspections for home-based care.
Specialized or Strict States
Mandate formal childcare licensing, annual renewals, tuberculosis screenings, immunization records, and multi-day pre-service training hours.
What Sitters Must Submit
Document requirements are tiered. All sitters submit the core set; state-specific documents are prompted based on the sitter's registered location.
